System Requirements
Field Laptop/Tablet Requirements
Unless you are planning to process data in the field, requirements for a field laptop or tablet are fairly minimal.
Operating System requirements are dependent on your ground control station. GRYFN payloads are agnostic to operating system.
For Pixhawk-based flight controllers, QGroundControl runs on Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS and Android.
An RJ45 (Ethernet) port, or Ethernet adapter, is currently required to connect your device to a hyperspectral sensor
Web browser capability is required
Extra I/O (USB-A and USB-C ports) are helpful for transferring data
Long battery life
Bright screen
Rugged capabilities/IP rating
Processing PC Requirements
GRYFN Processing Tool currently runs only on Windows. A Linux build is forthcoming. As far as computational requirements, GRYFN Processing Tool can run on any system with at least 8GB of RAM and a 4 core CPU. Below is a list of GRYFN's internal processing machines to show what we process on.
Example GRYFN processing machines:
Machine 1
32
3.7GHz
128GB
Machine 2
16
3.5GHz
64GB
Machine 3
10
3.3GHz
256GB
PC specs in order of importance:
CPU (high clock speed over cores, but ideally both)
RAM (high amount, then consider clock speed)
Disk read/write speed
Mass Storage Considerations
Sensor data collected from a GRYFN payload can be very storage intensive. When maximizing flight time on a single set of batteries, storage amounts for raw data alone can be in excess of 100GB per flight. After conversion and post-processing, this amount can increase 2x or more. With that in mind, storage becomes a limiting factor quickly.
GRYFN employs two methods of mass storage: a Network Accessible Server (NAS) for quick access to relevant data, and high capacity external hard drives for archival of past data. Each of our processing machines have a minimum of 4TB of local solid state storage to be able to house and process a variety of datasets instantly.
We encourage you to explore a variety of storage options and determine what works best for your organization.
