# Hyperspec III Launcher Configuration

## Overview

Classic Nano HS VNIR and Micro HS SWIR cameras utilize Headwall's Hyperspec III software for communications, pre-flight sensor setup, and post-flight data download. Each sensor has its own independent compute module and Ethernet connection, they are not internally networked together. There are multiple methods to configuring Hyperspec III to communicate with these sensors. The two main methods are:

1. Configure separate launchers of Hyperspec III pointing to independent configuration files for each sensor.
2. Configure Hyperspec III files to communicate with both sensors simultaneously.

The first method is a bit slower, but allows more independence between sensors. The second method is slightly faster, but requires that both sensors are connected to your field laptop simultaneously or the software will not work at all for either sensor. GRYFN has provided documentation below for each configuration of the software. Both methods require manual adjustment of configuration files.

{% hint style="info" %}
Prior to making any adjustments for either setup, we recommend making a backup of your sensorConfig folder, found at C:\Headwall\sensorConfig

Only one installation of Hyperspec III is required. The following instructions will guide users to force a new shortcut of Hyperspec III to point to a separate IP address for SWIR communication. Therefore, users can use a VNIR version of the shortcut and a SWIR version of the shortcut to easily access both sensors.

Your now have two working Hyperspec III launch icons to operate their respective sensors.

This method enables users to configure both sensors in the same instance of Hyperspec III. Capture tab controls both sensors simultaneously, so users would configure their Live Video page for frame period and exposure, then setup capture polygon in the GPS tab for each sensor individually, then open the Capture tab a single time. Starting Dark capture or Scene capture will initiate capture protocols for both sensors.

The caveat with this method is that both sensors must be connected to your machine at the same time. If one sensor is not connectable, malfunctions, or for the few minutes after power on where the SWIR cannot communicate until the coolers reach proper temperature, the software will not work for either sensor.

<table><thead><tr><th width="89">STEP</th><th>ACTION</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>1</td><td>Locate sensorConfig setups for each sensor (nHS and uVS)<br><br><em>You may already have these in C:\Headwall, or they will be available on the original Headwall USB delivery drive</em></td></tr><tr><td>2</td><td>Rename original sensorConfig folder(s) with .bak</td></tr><tr><td>3</td><td>Create a new folder in C:\Headwall called sensorConfig</td></tr><tr><td>4</td><td>Copy your nHS-### and uVS-### folders from original sensorConfig (now with .bak) into your new sensorConfig folder<br><br>If your original SWIR sensorConfig has a hypercore, aim..., or other folder, copy this into your new sensorConfig folder as well</td></tr><tr><td>5</td><td>Copy motionCapture.json and remoteControl.json from either the original sensorConfig folders into your new sensorConfig folder</td></tr><tr><td>6</td><td>Copy nanoGps.json from your original Nano sensorConfig folder into your new sensor config folder</td></tr><tr><td>7</td><td>Copy nanoGpsUltra.json from your original SWIR sensorConfig folder into your new sensor config folder</td></tr><tr><td>8</td><td>Copy sensors.json from your original SWIR sensorConfig folder into your new sensorConfig folder</td></tr><tr><td>9</td><td>Open this sensors.json in a text editor</td></tr><tr><td>10</td><td>Find and open the sensors.json file from your original Nano sensorConfig folder in a text editor as well</td></tr><tr><td>11</td><td>Above the end of object and array line }] at the end of the sensors.json in your new sensorConfig folder, add two new lines</td></tr><tr><td>12</td><td>On the first new line, we'll end the first object and start a new object by using:<br><br>},{</td></tr><tr><td>13</td><td>On the second new line, copy and paste everything inside the object from your original Nano sensor.json file</td></tr><tr><td>14</td><td>Final product should look something like this:</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% code overflow="wrap" %}

```
	"sensorFolder" : "${SENSOR_CONFIG}/uVS-### (or hyperCoreAim640DOE)",
	"enabled" : true,
	"autoInit" : false,
	"frameBroker" : {
{% endcode %}
When connected to both sensors simultaneously, Hyperspec III should connect to both sensors now. The dropdown menu near the top left of HSIII should have options to select between your Nano and SWIR/Hypercore. Every tab except the capture tab will individually control that element for whichever sensor is currently selected. The capture tab will control both sensors simultaneously, including Start and Stop commands, folder names, Collect Dark, and polygon triggering options.
